I
lived at Turnpike Caravan Park, 3 miles out of Chard on the Honiton
Road for over six years. You can see where the caravan site is on
the map. I don't drive and relied on public transport for getting
around to the various commissions and residencies I was working
on. Before the 99 bus service there was one bus a week from Howley.
The introduction of the 99 service in 2003 made getting around the
Blackdown Hills much easier. I love the route, and as anyone who
has taken the trip will know it traces some of the most undiscovered
parts of Somerset. It is a great example of the county implementing
a service that meets the needs of the people.
